Choosing the right vanity unit for your bathroom

In many bathrooms, space is at a premium. This means storage can be tricky, especially in a family bathroom.

One solution, which can also add a touch of glamour to a bathroom, is a vanity unit.

Pebble Grey explains what you need to think about when choosing the right vanity unit for your bathroom.
Size

Some vanity units can be a bit on the large size. In smaller bathrooms or en suites these designs can take up too much space and dominate the room. Based on the size of your bathroom, you need to pick a vanity unit with the right width and depth to accommodate anything you want to store, but also not take up all the available space in the room.

Remember that the fittings in your bathroom shouldn’t become an obstacle. Having to fight around a vanity unit in order to use the rest of your bathroom can really hamper the wow factor a piece can have. It can also make it much harder to use your bathroom as a place to relax and unwind.
Style

A vanity unit should complement the look and feel of the bathroom it’s in.

Thankfully, there are a number of different finishes, from natural wood to matte black or gloss white. So it’s possible to find a vanity unit that matches the decor in your bathroom.

When thinking about colour and finish, keep the size of the room in mind. For example, remember that lighter finishes, such as gloss white, can look much cleaner and work better in a smaller room. This can make it feel airy and create the illusion of extra space (especially when coupled with a good-sized mirror).
Features

Once you’ve decided on a size and finish, consider the functionality of the unit. Many vanity units can be wall-mounted, or exist as a freestanding unit. So think about things like, do you need the additional space below the unit to be clear, like for a bin or wash basket, or would more drawers be beneficial?

It’s important to also note that most vanity units have a basin fitted. With options of designs that have more than one basin fitted, you could opt to have a more opulent bathroom, such as his and hers basins. Or you could have a single basin if space is at a premium.

Make sure that everything you want to store in the vanity unit will fit. Also, do you want to keep a lot of additional items out of sight? If so, the additional space a freestanding unit offers might be more beneficial than a wall-mounted option.

Whatever your choice, a vanity unit like this is a fantastic means of tying together the function of a basin with additional storage.
