Which Size Mirror Do I Need?

Choosing the right size mirror makes a real difference — too small and it looks lost, too large and it can overwhelm the space. Here is everything you need to know.

Quick size guide by basin type

Bathroom Type Recommend Mirror Size Why
Cloakroom or small en-suite 500mm wide Proportionate to a compact basin (typically 400–500mm wide). Creates a clean, uncluttered look.
Standard single bathroom 600mm wide The most popular size. Works above a standard 550–600mm basin and leaves space either side.
Larger en-suite or master bathroom 700–800mm wide Makes a stronger visual statement. Works above a 600–800mm wide basin.
Double basin or wide wall 800–1000mm wide Matches the visual width of a double basin unit (typically 1200mm+) without overpowering it.
Feature wall or statement install 1000mm+ wide For oversized installations, double-height mirrors, or dramatic design intent.

How to measure your space

Before ordering, measure three things:

  • Basin width: measure the outer edge of your basin at its widest point. Your mirror should be equal to or up to 50mm narrower than your basin on each side.
  • Wall width: measure the total wall width between any obstacles — tiles, pipes, shelves, or adjacent units. Leave at least 50mm either side of the mirror for a balanced look.
  • Height available: measure from where you want the bottom of the mirror to sit (typically 10–15cm above the basin taps) up to where the ceiling or any obstructions begin.

Mirror vs cabinet: does size work differently?

For mirror cabinets, there is one additional consideration: the door open width. When a single-door cabinet opens, it swings out by the full width of the door. If your cabinet is 500mm wide, the open door extends approximately 500mm to one side. Check that this clearance is available — especially in alcoves or beside adjacent units. The open-door width is shown in the product dimensions on each cabinet page.

Height: where should the mirror sit?

As a general guide, position the centre of the mirror at eye level for the primary user — typically 150–160cm from the floor. The bottom of the mirror should sit approximately 10–20cm above the basin taps to give a balanced appearance.
